Applicants’ FAQs

Please note that we only accept direct applications.  We do not work with recruitment agencies.

Q – What makes a great job application?
A – We always score our job applications against the Person Specification. Read this carefully, and make sure that your application shows that your skills, qualifications and experiences fit with what we’re looking for (ask a friend to check your application if you’re unsure). Use your application to show strong written communication if that’s relevant.

We’ve recently changed our application forms and now have a section that specifically asks you to work through the Person Specification and show how you meet each point. Most of our scoring is based on that section, and this is the part that’s most likely to set you apart from other candidates.

Please don’t just copy and paste a standard personal statement.

Q – I’m having trouble with providing referees.
A – You must be able to provide us with two appropriate referees. This is part of the application process. We understand that a previous employer may be no longer operating. If that’s the case, please give an alternative and explain this clearly on your application.

Q – Do you have pension arrangements for staff?
A – Yes. We have a stakeholder pension scheme. Following the probationary period, the YMCA will match your contribution up to 3%.

Q – How do I find out more about Doncaster YMCA?
A – The pages on this site are the best source of information about us, and are an ideal way to find out more. We’re adding to them all the time, so do check back.

Q – Is the YMCA a National Charity?
A – Doncaster YMCA is a part of the international YMCA Movement, but every YMCA is an individual charity. That means that we’re all different, and at Doncaster we’re responsible for all of our own finances and policies. If you come to work for us, you’ll be employed by Doncaster YMCA.

Q – Do you have a policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders?
A – Yes. Our arrangements are available by clicking here. Everyone who works for Doncaster YMCA will, in varying ways, have unsupervised contact with children, young people or vulnerable adults. All posts are therefore subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.
